To elucidate genetic polymorphisms of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) MMP1 (rs1799750), MMP2 (rs243865), MMP9 (rs3918242), MMP12 (rs2276109) and tissue inhibitors of MMPs (TIMPs) TIMP1 (rs2070584) and TIMP3 (rs9619311) genes that may be involved in susceptibility to bladder cancer (BC).
The MMP9 microsatellite >or=24 CA repeat and MMP12 -82 G alleles were associated with a higher risk of bladder cancer invasiveness [odds ratio (OR), 3.10; 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.17-8.23 and OR, 1.50; 95% CI, 1.00-2.28, respectively].
We analyzed the association of 11 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and one microsatellite polymorphism in MMP genes MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-8, MMP-9, and MMP-12 with bladder cancer risk in 560 Caucasian patients and 560 controls matched on age, gender, and ethnicity.
