Specimens from these patients were stained by HE and immunohistochemistry for the detection of WT1, vimentin, S-100 protein, CK7, P504s, CD10 and renal cell carcinoma marker (RCC).
Grade 4 unclassified renal cell carcinoma with sarcomatoid component expressing S-100 protein. A case report with peculiar diagnostic and therapeutic implications.
Statistical analyses comparing the different expression of S100A1 in clear cell and chromophobe renal cell carcinomas observed by immunohistochemical and RT-PCR methods showed significant values (P<0.001), such as when comparing by both techniques the different levels of S100A1 expression in chromophobe renal cell carcinomas and oncocytomas (P<0.001).

However, these genes were newly expressed in the RCC lesions (n=7) and the RCC cell line, indicating that expression of S100A1 and S100A10 genes is accompanied by RCC.
