The results of the present study suggest that ID1 functions as an oncogene in GC and regulates the stem cell like-properties of gastric cancer cells by targeting Nanog and Oct-4.
Mst1, Lats1 and Oct4 mRNA expression showed an increasing tendency from GC tissues to normal gastric tissues, while the mRNA expression of YAP1, TAZ and TEAD1 was up-regulated (all P<0.01).
In conclusion, this study demonstrates an alteration in the expression pattern and nuclear translocation of Oct4 during gastric carcinogenesis and may be helpful in designing new modalities for the early detection and/or therapy of gastric cancer.
