Screening a large tissue microarray of different staged colorectal tumors by immunohistochemistry, we found that Dvl2 has a strong tendency to be overexpressed in colorectal adenomas and carcinomas, in parallel to nuclear beta-catenin and Axin2 (a universal transcriptional target of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling).
The present data indicate that frameshift mutations in both AXIN2 and TCF7L2 genes are common in gastric carcinomas with high MSI and suggest that these mutations may contribute to development of gastric cancers with high MSI by deregulating the Wnt signaling in the affected cancer cells.
