Because the adaptation of cancer cells to the tumor microenvironment is vital for subsequent oncogenesis, we tested for miR-874 and CCNE1 interdependence in osteosarcoma cells.
Taken together, these results indicate that miR-132 functions as a tumor suppressor in osteosarcoma and that its suppressive effects are mediated chiefly by repressing CCNE1 expression.
In addition, several genes involved in differentiation (RGMB, LRRC17), cell cycle control (CCNE1), and apoptosis (LIMA1, CAMK2N1) were found to be deregulated in osteosarcoma cell lines, most likely due to altered miRNA expression patterns.
