In vivo, 12-week SAG treatment also inhibited the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in HFD-fed mice by increasing mitofusin 2 (Mfn2) and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) levels and decreasing dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) and Bcl-2 homologous antagonist/killer (Bak) levels.
Further quantitative real-time PCR demonstrated that B cell lymphoma/leukemia 2 (Bcl2) were significantly decreased and dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1), Optic atrophy 1 (Opa1), mitochondrial fission factor 1 (Mfn1), Mfn2, p53, caspase-8, Bcl-2 associated X protein (Bax), caspase-3, caspase-9 and cytochrome C were significantly increased in all As2O3 group.
