We performed area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) analysis to identify the optimal cutoff C4 concentrations for the diagnosis of diarrhea attributable to bile acid malabsorption (BAD), defined as diarrhea and a serum concentration of FGF19 <60 pg/mL.
To analyse prevalence, specificity and reproducibility of fasting C4 and FGF19 in identifying bile acid diarrhoea in patients with irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhoea or functional diarrhoea (summarised as IBS-D).
There were 54 SNVs in 10 of 11 bile acid-regulating genes, with no SNVs in FGF19; 15 nonsynonymous SNVs were identified in similar proportions of IBS-D and controls.
