Although preclinical studies implicate the FGF19 receptor FGFR4 in hepatocarcinogenesis, the dependence of human cancer on FGFR4 has not been demonstrated.
In this report, we compared the properties of human FGF19 and murine FGF15 in the regulation of hepatocarcinogenesis and metabolism in various mouse models of disease.
Further study is required to investigate the potential role of FGF19 amplification in driving hepatocarcinogenesis in patients with liver cirrhosis and to investigate the potential of anti-FGF19 treatment in these patients.
