In this study, we investigated the association of two polymorphisms in the CETP, Taq1B (rs708272) and -629C > A (rs1800775), with CAD and lipid levels HDL-C in 662 CAD + cases and 927 controls from the Singapore population comprising Chinese, Malays and Indians.
Results showed that subjects with CETP rs5882 genetic variant, AA&AG genotypes, had a higher risk of developing Coronary artery disease [OR: 2.1, 95% CI (1.2-4.1), p value = 0.015].
However, there were no significant associations between lipid levels and CETP rs708272 polymorphism in females, after adjusting for confounders.CETP rs708272 polymorphism has a gender-specific effect on lipid and AIP levels but not on the risk of CAD.
We also observed an allelic pattern, C<sub>(rs2477616)</sub>C<sub>(rs708272)</sub>C<sub>(rs1532624),</sub> which increased susceptibility to CAD by 43% (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.10-1.85, p = 0.006).
