General linear model analysis showed no effect of any individual analyzed mutation on the phenotypic variables, but we confirmed association between mutations KIT exon 9 p. 503-504_dup2, and PDGFRA exon 18 p. D842V and intestinal and gastric localization of tumors.
Treatment with dasatinib or the heat shock protein 90 inhibitor IPI-504 may provide a therapeutic alternative for GIST patients whose tumors carry the imatinib-resistant PDGFRA(D842V) mutant isoform.
Further cytogenetic analysis revealed that this tumor had a point mutation (D842V substitution) in exon 18 of the platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha gene.
